Year-round air service between the Eastern Sierra Regional Airport in Bishop (BIH) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) began last month. This development reflects a coordinated effort among regional partners to expand travel connectivity for the Eastern Sierra.

United Airlines now operates the BIH-SFO route on a four-season schedule, providing service four days a week in spring and fall, and daily during summer and winter. This marks a shift from seasonal to year-round operation for the airline on this route. Additionally, winter seasonal flights between Denver (DEN) and BIH will continue to operate daily. The Town is part of the Eastern Sierra Air Alliance (ESAA), a group composed of local government and tourism organizations that collaborate to develop and sustain commercial air service across the region.

In Mammoth Lakes, residents have the opportunity to purchase Parks and Recreation annual memberships at a 50% discount during October. This offer is available in-person only at the Parks and Recreation Department offices, located at the Community Recreation Center / LA Kings Ice at Mammoth Lakes (686 Old Mammoth Road), Monday through Friday, between 1 and 5 pm. The annual membership provides unlimited access to Open Skate/Curl at LA Kings Ice Mammoth Lakes (with some exclusions), Open Swim (including Lap Swim) at the Whitmore Pool, and Open Play in summer at the Mammoth RecZone. Members also receive additional perks, including complimentary events and rental discounts. For families, all children 17 years and younger can skate, swim, and play for free all year with the purchase of two paid adult memberships. Adults also have the option to skate this winter for $30 a month. It is important to note that membership admission does not include Pick Up Hockey, Drop-In Curling, or Hockey/Curling/Skating Clinics at LA Kings Ice Mammoth Lakes.

Maintenance has also been completed on the Mammoth Creek Park climbing boulder this week. A representative from Entre Prise, the boulder manufacturer, addressed damage and cracking identified earlier in the year, which was likely caused by settling after installation and normal wear and tear. Repairs included removing and replacing chipped sections, re-fiberglassing cracks, fixing the access panel, and touching up paint.

Additionally, residents should mark their calendars for a free Electronic Waste (E-Waste) and Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection day event. This event will take place on Saturday, October 17, from 8 am to 3 pm at the Mammoth Disposal transfer station, located at 59 Commerce Drive in Mammoth. All accepted materials will be recycled at no charge for Town of Mammoth Lakes residents. Commercial or construction materials will not be permitted. This event is hosted in collaboration with Mammoth Disposal, who can be contacted for more information.

Finally, a portion of the Town Loop multi-use path near Mammoth Creek was temporarily closed this week. Mammoth Community Water District (MCWD) and its contractor performed necessary sewer line rehabilitation in the section behind Cerro Coso Community College and the Mammoth Lakes Library. The closure was in effect on Wednesday, October 7, and Thursday, October 8, with a detour provided for public use.
